SCRIPT LAB OVERVIEW
Script Lab is a program for alums of Youth FX programs, and covers the fundamentals of screenwriting, story development, and production planning. Six emerging filmmakers were selected to participate and develop their short film scripts over the course of the 4 month program. One of the scripts will be selected to receive a $25,000 budget and go into production in spring 2024 with the support of Rogue FX Productions and a crew of Arts2Work and Youth FX alumni.
The Script Lab table read event will feature a cast of actors bringing voice to new scripts from the six screenwriters who participated in the Youth FX program. Showcasing scripts written by Bryan Asare, Camille Dobbs, Daysia Hiller, Elijah Gaddy, Miki Foster and Zanief Washington, the event will take place at Youth FX Studios on Saturday February 3rd at 6:30pm.
Participants of Script Lab workshopped their short narrative film ideas in a supportive creative community, while receiving mentorship and access to resources. They were all provided with a one-year complimentary subscription to Final Draft, participated in the 2023 Film Columbia screenwriters workshop, and received virtual passes to the short film program of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
Script Lab was facilitated by Bhawin Suchak and featured masterclasses and mentorship from professional screenwriters, directors and actors: Miles Joris-Peyrafitte, Nijla Mu’min and Scott Cohen. The table read actors include: Morgan Heyward, Aaron Moore, Diaka Kaba, Eliana Rowe, Jazlyn Gourousingh, Zyaire Gaddy and Godswill Utionkpan. The program was supported with funding from NYSCA, Albany County Community Development Grant, and the Touhey Family Foundation.
